by Giovanni Corriga

Hi everyone, As announced in the last UKSTUG online meeting, we’d be happy to organise in-person meetups with other Smalltalkers who might happen to stop by London on their way to/from ESUG 2023 in Lyon. If you're interested, please let us know and we'll put something in the UKSTUG calendar. Cheers, Gio

Re: What are your git questions?

by Noury Bouraqadi

How can I make a symbolic link to a branch? Examples of symbolic links would be : latest-stable, development. For example in PharoJS, latest-stable would point to pharo10 branch now, and development points to pharo11 branch. But, once all tests become green for the pharo11 branch, we'll change so: latest-stable -> pharo11 develpment -> pharo12 Noury On Jul 8 2023, at 5:03 pm, stephane ducasse <stephane.ducasse(a)inria.fr> wrote: > Hi > > At ESUG Guillermo and Pablo will run a special talk around git. > The idea is to reply to your concrete git questions. > > You can reply to this mail or keep them and we will collect them during > the first days of the conference. > > Here are some examples of a question. > - How can I make sure that a branch on which I’m still working will not produce noise > with the new version of master that came out? > > - I depend on projects that are in development but I do not want to be exposed to their > bugs, how can they configure their system? > > - I pushed some changes I did not want. What are your git questions?

by stephane ducasse

Hi At ESUG Guillermo and Pablo will run a special talk around git. The idea is to reply to your concrete git questions. You can reply to this mail or keep them and we will collect them during the first days of the conference. Here are some examples of a question. - How can I make sure that a branch on which I’m still working will not produce noise with the new version of master that came out? - I depend on projects that are in development but I do not want to be exposed to their bugs, how can they configure their system? - I pushed some changes I did not want. How can I revert them and keep the others? S

UK Smalltalk User Group Meeting: David Buck - Beagle Smalltalk, 28 June 2023

by Giovanni Corriga

For the UKSTUG June meeting, Simberon's David Buck will present Beagle Smalltalk. Over the past 8 years, David has been developing a Smalltalk virtual machine and image. He used it to release two Smalltalk games which ran on Android and iPhone devices. More recently, he's re-written the VM to use a new bytecode set and re-written the Smalltalk compiler with a new framework to make a new Smalltalk environment called Beagle Smalltalk named after the ship that took Darwin on his voyage of discovery. David plans to release this as an open-source Smalltalk to help and encourage kids to explore the world of programming. In this talk, David presents the current status of the project and where he hopes to go with it. David Buck is the president of Simberon ( http://simberon.com/ ) - a company that has been providing Smalltalk training and consulting for over 25 years. Along with James Robertson, David produced the Industry Misinterpretations podcast and later the Smalltalk Reflections podcast with Craig Latta. David remains a Smalltalk enthusiast and works to spread the word about Smalltalk. This will be an online meeting from home. If you'd like to join us, please sign up in advance on the meeting's Meetup page ( https://www.meetup.com/ukstug/events/293933993/ ) to receive the meeting details.
