[ANN][DBX] Phoseydon Beta2

by Guillermo Polito

Hi! I'm willing to announce the second beta release of Phoseydon, part of the DBXTalk project, supported by ESUG :). It's main new feature is a simple internal dsl to generate entities, so you can create applications from something like: personEntity := application entityNamed: #Person. personEntity hasString: #nickname; hasInteger: #age; hasBoolean: #isProgrammer. petEntity := application entityNamed: #Pet. petEntity hasString: #nickname. personEntity hasMany: #Pet as: #pets. petEntity hasOne: #Person as: #owner. Also, a little manual is already written in: http://dbxtalk.smallworks.com.ar/pier/Documentation For download: http://dbxtalk.smallworks.com.ar/pier/Download Issues, mails, questions: http://dbxtalk.smallworks.com.ar/pier/Support Cheers, the DBXTalk Team

Call for papers - Science of Computer Programming: Special Issue on "Advances in Dynamic Languages"

by jannik.laval

================================================ Special issue on "Advances in Dynamic Languages" ================================================ Special issue of Elsevier's Science of Computer Programming (SCICO) Context ------- Over recent years we have seen an increased interest in dynamic programming languages such as Smalltalk, Lisp, Scheme, PHP, JavaScript, Self, Python, Ruby, and so on. These languages have taken a prominent role in teaching, web development, scripting, rapid prototyping, tool building, language engineering, and many other domains. For this special issue we invite high-quality papers that focus on novel research related to dynamic programming languages and applications of these languages. We are interested in research that uses dynamic languages in the context of, but not restricted to: - Aspects, aspect Languages and applications. - Ambient intelligence, ubiquitous / pervasive computing and embedded systems. - Compilation technology, optimization, virtual machines. - Language engineering, extensions. - Model-driven engineering / development. - Meta-modeling, reflection and meta-programming. - Programming in the large; design, architectures and components. - Programming environments, browsers, user interfaces, UI frameworks. - Source-code analysis and manipulation (static analysis, refactoring, type inference, metrics). - Testing, eXtreme Programming / practices. - Web services, internet applications, event-driven programming. - Experience reports. The special issue is associated with the Smalltalks 2011 conference. The Smalltalks series of conferences (www.fast.org.ar) is a lively forum on Smalltalk-based software technologies that brings together more than 200 people from both academia and industry for a period of three days. Submission Guidelines --------------------- Papers should be written in English, in PDF-format and should not exceed 25 pages (including references and figures), using the Elsevier journal format. The LaTeX template for this format can be found at http://www.elsevier.com/wps/find/authorsview.authors/latex Papers must be submitted through the EES submission system located at http://ees.elsevier.com/scico/default.asp When reaching the "Article type" step in the submission process, it is important to select "Special issue: Advances in Dynamic Languages". Each paper will be reviewed by at least 3 experts within the domain. The accepted papers will be published in a special edition of Elsevier's Science of Computer Programming. Papers submitted must not have been previously published (at least 30% new material) and must not be under review for publication elsewhere. Papers must strictly adhere to submission guidelines. If you have questions, please send an e-mail to Jannik Laval (jlaval(a)labri.fr) and Andy Kellens (akellens(a)vub.ac.be) Important dates (tentitavely) ----------------------------- - Submission round 1: March 16, 2012 - Feedback round 1: May 17, 2012 - Submission round 2: June 29, 2012 - Feedback round 2 (final notification): August 17, 2012 - Camera ready version: September 14, 2012 Guest editors ------------- Andy Kellens (Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium) Jannik Laval (LaBRI Bordeaux, France)

[ANN][Beta Release] DBXTools - Magritte Scaffolding - Phoseydon

by Guillermo Polito

Hi! I'm glad to announce the beta version of Phoseydon, one of the new dbxtalk tools developed as part of the summer of talk project, supported by ESUG. So, *What is Phoseydon?* It is a tool aimed to model and create applications easily, as Ruby does with Rails or python with Django. You describe a model, and from that model a relational database + an object model + an ORM mapping are fed from that model. *What does Phoseydon beta includes?* By now, it reads a database schema, builds a model description from it and then allows us to: - write classes from that description. - serialize that description as Magritte descriptions on the created classes. - build a Glorp mapping from that description. Glorp descriptions right now support Simple mappings (Strings, numbers, booleans..), OneToOne relationships, and ManyToOne relationships. *What does it do in the background?* It tries to explode Magritte benefits to create apps. The model's description is just a magritte descrition, so our class writer, magritte serializer and Glorp mapping builder use magritte visitors to consume that information. This allows people to build i.e. SOAP web services from these same magritte descriptions. *Where is the documentation? *Download info from: http://dbxtalk.smallworks.com.ar/pier/Download First Phoseydon doc: http://dbxtalk.smallworks.com.ar/pier/Documentation/creating-your-first-dbx… *What is to come?* - Editing your model descriptions in runtime - Create your model descriptions without a database - More easy Glorp mappings support :) (like embedding objects, inheritance and more collections kinds) Please, feel free to provide feedback, critics and suggestions :). Hi! I'm glad to announce the new -but still in progress- dbxtalk website, which is held in http://dbxtalk.smallworks.com.ar/. Here we are documenting the whole project and it's new acquisitions (some of them which I'll be announcing in the following hours) as part of the summer of talk project, supported by ESUG. Please, feel free to provide feedback, critics and suggestions :). You'll find the project's issue tracker and mailing list @ http://dbxtalk.smallworks.com.ar/pier/Support BTW, if you need it for something (like information we didn't migrate yet), the previous website is still available @ http://squeakdbx.smallworks.com.ar/ Cheers, Guille

Re: [Esug-list] [Dutch] Escrow agreement Smalltalk projects

by stephane ducasse

Indeed. Now what we could do as a community is to - have a list of companies that are available (but no contract because of the reasons you raised). - that the consortium set up a kind of certification process - questions… - running moose on the software :).
