Hi, Just a quick report of yesterday meetup. We planned to make a Demo meetup. It ended up in a VA Smalltalk presentation by Sebastian Heidbrink (thanks Sebastian!). He went through the creation of a small application from scratch (how to load stuff, ENVY's basics, etc). Pretty interesting for those of us who haven't seen anything else that screenshots on Instantiations website! Seven people showed up (two of them were new to Smalltalk). Nothing is decided yet for next time but we will try to keep the monthly meeting. Once again, if you're in Vancouver area, you can join the meetup group: http://www.meetup.com/Vancouver-Smalltalk-Developers-Group/ Cheers, Francois -- http://tulipemoutarde.be CA: +1 778 558 3225 BE: +32 65 709 131 On 08/06/12 12:46, Francois Stephany wrote: > Hi, > > The next meetup of the Vancouver Smalltalk Developers Group is scheduled > for next thursday in Gastown. > > This will be a demo meetup. [ESUG 2012] Call for sponsors

by Luc Fabresse

Dear Smalltalkers, As you know ESUG (European Smalltalk User Group) is a nonprofit organization, ran by a bunch of volunteers which aims at promoting Smalltalk (http://www.esug.org/Promotion) ESUG does have multiple actions such as sponsoring Smalltalk-related publications (articles and books), encouraging developers and more specifically young students to learn Smalltalk (Student Volunteers program) and build innovative software using Smalltalk (SummerTalk, ESUG Awards, "Support your project" program, Umbrella for GSoC, ...). ESUG revenue comes only from sponsoring, donations, and registrations to the ESUG yearly event (for 20 years!). Therefore, we invite you to support the ESUG actions by encouraging your companies and organizations to sponsor ESUG. As previous years, we have three sponsoring packages ( http://www.esug.org/About/BecomeSponsor) * Silver ESUG Sponsor: By paying € 500 per year, the logo of your company/association is displayed during the ESUG conference, and you are also recognized as a sponsor on our ESUG website http://www.esug.org. You are entitled to mention that you are an ESUG sponsor, and to use the ESUG logo in that context. * Gold ESUG Sponsor: By paying € 1000 per year, you get all of the above, and ESUG correspondence and distributions (CD, Documentation) will feature your logo. You also get a 10% fee reduction on the ESUG events for up to 5 people of your organisation. * Platinum ESUG Sponsor: By Paying € 2000 per year, you get all of the above, but you get a 20% fee reduction on the ESUG events for up to 10 people of your organisation. For any further information, you can contact us directly at board(a)esug.org. Best regards, Luc Fabresse On behalf of the ESUG board

Metacello BOF at ESUG 2012?

by Dale Henrichs

I am planning on doing an informal Metacello Q&A session at Camp Smalltalk this year. Johan Fabry suggested a Metacello BOF during the main conference for folks who weren't able to attend Camp Smalltalk. I've also submitted a talk proposal on Metacello. Anyway, it doesn't seem that there are usually a lot of BOFs at ESUG, nor the facilities for a BOF, so I was wondering what options there might be? ... I could make room for open Q&A at the end of my talk, but I would prefer a much more informal setting for the Q&A - something with a white board ... What do you folks think. Dale
