Bonjour, Je vais me désabonner car j'en ai marre de voir mon langage favori (mais non exclusif) spolié par du baratin 'geek" sans intérêt. Si certains d'entre vous restent motivé par l'avenir de la programmation objet, il faut regarder du côté du parallélisme massif, et cela commence par l'implantation de compilateurs SIMD (NVidia-- CUDA, par exemple). Ici, beaucoup de baratins et de discours, et rien d'efficace, il est vrai que l'ANR Francaise et la communauté St n'ont pas du tout aidé. Cela s'apparente à un comportement sectaire. Adieu va, Je reste avec mon horizon de Smalltalk, les systèmes embarqués, le distribué, et le calcul parallèle. Plus, à qui veut en savoir plus, mon adresse est en dessous. Je suis un chercheur actif, qui a des objectifs scientifiques. Description of the work: The goal of this PhD is to study Smalltalk integration with FPGAs for robotic applications. This integration will enable us get the best from both worlds. Developers are provided with a high-level dynamic reflective language (Smalltalk) for building and debugging their applications. Still, we can have high performances by projecting part of the programs into FPGAs. These reconfigurable hardware chips can achieve performance faster than C programs, while consuming much less energy. The work to do can decompose into the following tasks: -Build reference robotic applications fully in Pharo Smalltalk using actual robots (see http://car.mines-douai.fr/robots/) -Analyze these applications to identify critical parts to project on FPGAs to significantly increase performances (speed, energy) -Do the actual projection to FPGA and evaluate performances of the transformed applications -Generalize the approach and define a methodology for turning Smalltalk code into FPGA -Propose a solution to automate the methodology The Ph.D student will receive a grant which net amount is approximately 1420 euros per month for 3 years (36 months). He will be co-supervised by Loïc Lagadec from the ENSTA-Bretagne (Lab-STICC, Brest) and Jannik Laval, Luc Fabresse and Noury Bouraqadi from Ecole des Mines de Douai (CAR, http://car.mines-douai.fr/) The first 18th month will be spent in Douai (Lille area), while the last half of the PhD will be spent in Brest. [ANN] Amber 0.11.0 released!

Amber 0.11.0 released! * About the release Three months have passed and we are happy to announce the release of Amber 0.11.0! Some numbers about this release: 433 commits by 13 committers, increasing the number of core committers to 25. 50 unit tests were added to the kernel, bringing us to 313 unit tests in total. Since the last release 60 issues were closed, bringing us to 499 issues closed. This release includes a lot of bug fixes, improvements to the CLI, as well as a preview of the next IDE, named Helios. Amber now also uses a CI server [1]. To try the Helios, the new IDE, open the helios.html page, or evaluate in any other amber page `amber.loadHelios()`. The compiler also received some improvements, especially regarding message send optimisations and super sends.
