Call for presentations for a conference in Paris

_____________________________________________________________________________ Call for Papers Open Source Developer Conference in France (OSDC.fr) Open World Forum, Paris, October 12th & 13th, 2012 http://osdc.fr/ _____________________________________________________________________________ The goal of OSDC.fr is to gather developers from various communities around groundbreaking technologies in the world of computer programming. After two editions on our own, we are now working together with the Open World Forum since 2011 to bring you an improved experience. For the 4th edition of this conference in France, we want to unite the communities around open source development in all the free and open source languages, like Perl, Python, Ruby, PHP, Smalltalk and many more. The main goal is to learn by discovering new tricks in new languages: there is often a lot to learn by tackling concepts and techniques not linked to a particular programming language. To this end, we invite you to join us at OSDC.fr, either by submitting a talk, or simply by attending the conference, which will take place on the 12th and 13th October 2012, during the Open World Forum, at Eurosites George V, Paris. Entrance is free of charge. Talks can last 25 or 45 minutes. There will also be a lightning talks session, with a 5-minute limit on each talk. Xtreams (and other cross-platform projects)

I'm posting this to squeak-dev, pharo dev, and esug, but it'd be great to keep discussion in one place, like the esug list, or even better, the issue link below if appropriate... At ESUG, Martin Kobetic, Dale Henrich, and I worked on some key pieces to port and maintain cross-platform projects via github. By adapting Filetree to convert between VW namespaces and class name prefixes, we: 1. loaded Xtreams from squeaksource 2. via a Filetree repo, pushed it to github in a directory structure identical to that of the VW branch 3. again via Filetree, loaded the pushed version into another Pharo image, where all the tests passed. This is an initial proof-of-concept (some things are hard-coded, conditional halts left as sanity checks, etc.), but it shows that it is possible. Some limitations: * only one level of namespace is supported * source code is not transformed More details can be found at https://github.com/dalehenrich/filetree/issues/59 Cheers, Sean
