Survey: Identifying and Fixing Undesirable Behaviors Across Software Versions
by Remi Dufloer May 12, 2025

May 12, 2025

Hello, As part of my PhD at the University of Lille, I am currently conducting a study on how developers handle certain bug scenarios. The goal is to better understand current practices, the tools used, and developers' needs regarding debugging in a specific scenario. Link to the questionnaire: [ https://sondages.inria.fr/index.php/566958?lang=en | https://sondages.inria.fr/index.php/566958?lang=en ] Your participation in this short questionnaire (5 - 10 minutes) would greatly help us analyze existing methods and identify potential gaps in the available solutions. This survey will be open for 6 weeks (Until May 15th, 2025) . The responses will be analyzed and included in a scientific publication. The results will be available [ https://remidufloer.github.io/Dufloer.github.io/survey.html | here ] . If you can, please feel free to share this questionnaire with other developers who might be interested. Every response counts and will contribute to a better understanding of the community's practices! A big thank you for your help and time. IWST Logo selection
by Guillermo Polito April 30, 2025

April 30, 2025

Hello board, For the IWST logo, we launched last year a competition. We received several submissions, we filtered the “ugly” ones. The PDF below shows a selection of three, ranked by our preferences. (First one is our preferred one). We need from you: - validating/voting for the one we should use, as this logo will represent ESUG too. We prefer the first one, but we are open to suggestions. - to know if you have some proposals or modifications. We are thinking on asking some font changes, probably you have some extra requirements like color or so... - we talked last year a prize of 200€. Is that still ok? We could give it during the social event in the conference. Cheers, G & G

UKSTUG Meeting: Esteban Lorenzano - Pharo-CIG: C++ Interface Generator - 23 April 2025
by UK Smalltalk April 14, 2025

April 14, 2025

For our April meeting, we'll be hosting Pharo's Esteban Lorenzano to talk about Pharo-CIG - a C++ Interface Generator. The Pharo FFI (Foreign Function Interface) system is an excellent tool that enables Pharo users to create bindings with external C libraries. However, there's a significant drawback that often discourages its use: the bindings must be manually created, a process that can be slow and prone to crashes. Pharo-CIG ( https://github.com/estebanlm/pharo-cig ) proposes a solution to bridge that gap. Esteban Lorenzano ( https://github.com/estebanlm/ ) studied Computer Sciences at Universidad de Buenos Aires, and worked since 1994 in several object-oriented and low-level technologies, in different software companies, serving in various positions from programmer to senior architect. In 2007 he co-founded Smallworks to offer Pharo-based agile development projects. Since 2012 he dedicated full time to developing the Pharo code and community. He works with the INRIA-EVREF team in Lille, France, as core developer for Pharo, being responsible with the coordination of new releases and the implementation and maintenance of several Pharo libraries. This will be an online meeting. If you'd like to join us, please sign up in advance on the meeting's Meetup page ( https://www.meetup.com/ukstug/events/305761373/ ) to receive the meeting details. Don’t forget to bring your laptop and drinks!

IWST deadline extension
by Guillermo Polito March 28, 2025

March 28, 2025

Dear all, due to several requests, we have extended the submission deadlines for the call for presentations. Please check the info below: -------- IWST is the International Workshop on Smalltalk Technologies. The goal of the workshop is to create a forum around contributions and experiences in building or using technologies related to Smalltalk. While the maturity of presented ideas and results is not crucial, their presentation is expected to trigger discussion and exchange of ideas. The topics of your paper can be on all aspects of Smalltalk, theoretical as well as practical. Authors are invited to submit research articles or industrial papers. https://esug.org/2025-Conference/IWST2025.html This year we will again have two different tracks: Two-Round Paper Submission. As in the previous year, submission will be in two rounds: Extended abstracts are submitted to present at the conference Later, full/short papers are submitted for proceedings publications Presenting Previously Published Works. We also invite authors of contributions related to IWST's topics, accepted for publication in Journals and Proceedings of top-rated international conferences within the previous 2 years, to submit an abstract and present their published results to the IWST workshop collocated with ESUG. Authors will be invited to present their paper after checking that the submission meets the above criteria. Having the submissions already reviewed and accepted by the peers, they will not be reviewed again for technical content.
