Papers may range from 6 to 12 pages in length and may optionally include 2 further pages of bibliography/appendices. Papers will be reviewed with an understanding that some results do not need 12 full pages and may be fully described in fewer pages. * New ideas/vision papers: These papers may describe new, unconventional software language engineering research positions or approaches that depart from standard practice. They can describe well-defined research ideas that are at an early stage of investigation. They could also provide new evidence to challenge common wisdom, present new unifying theories about existing SLE research that provides novel insight or that can lead to the development of new technologies or approaches, or apply SLE technology to radically new application areas. New ideas/vision papers must not exceed 5 pages and may optionally include 1 further page of bibliography/appendices. * SLE Body of Knowledge: The SLE Body of Knowledge (SLEBoK) is a community-wide effort to provide a unique and comprehensive description of the concepts, best practices, tools, and methods developed by the SLE community. In this respect, the SLE conference will accept surveys, essays, open challenges, empirical observations, and case study papers on the SLE topics. These can focus on, but are not limited to, methods, techniques, best practices, and teaching approaches. Papers in this category can have up to 20 pages, including bibliography/appendices. * Tool papers: These papers focus on the tooling aspects often forgotten or neglected in research papers. A good tool paper focuses on practical insights that will likely be useful to other implementers or users in the future. Any of the SLE topics of interest are appropriate areas for tool demonstrations. Submissions must not exceed 5 pages and may optionally include 1 further page of bibliography/appendices. They may optionally include an appendix with a demo outline/screenshots and/or a short video/screencast illustrating the tool. Workshops: Workshops will be organised by STAF. Please inform us and contact STAF 2025 organisers if you would like to organise a workshop of interest to the SLE audience. Information on how to submit workshops can be found on the STAF 2025 Website. --------------------------- Submission --------------------------- SLE 2025 has a single submission round for papers, including a mandatory abstract registration and a rebuttal phase, where all authors of research papers will have the possibility of responding to the reviews on their submissions. Authors of accepted research papers will be invited to submit artefacts. --------------------------- Format --------------------------- Submissions have to use the ACM SIGPLAN Conference Format “acmart” ( https://sigplan.org/Resources/Author/#acmart-format) please make sure that you always use the latest ACM SIGPLAN acmart LaTeX template, and that the document class definition is `\documentclass[sigplan,anonymous,review]{acmart}`. Do not make any changes to this format! Ensure that your submission is legible when printed on a black and white printer. In particular, please check that colours remain distinct and font sizes in figures and tables are legible. To increase fairness in reviewing, a double-blind review process has become standard across SIGPLAN conferences. Accordingly, SLE will follow the double-blind process. Author names and institutions must be omitted from submitted papers, and references to the authors’ own related work should be in the third person. Phausto at AudioDeveloperConference24 - feedback

Hello everybody, here a quick feedback about my participation (unfortunately only online) at the Audio Developer Conference 2024 ( https://audio.dev/) I was presenting Phausto (https://github.com/lucretiomsp/phausto) on 3 daily poster sessions in the virtual venue, and at the open-mic session ( https://youtu.be/fVw80P_8RMs) The open-mic session was attended by ~50 people from all around the world. The poster sessions were attended by 2 groups of 30 people, and I have 1-to-1 interactions with other 15 people. Just a couple of people knew something about Pharo, and around 10 have heard about Smalltalk. Everybody appreciated the simplicity of Phausto and how quick it is to develop DSP and export them to other languages (Cmajor, C++). Everybody was really impressed by Iceberg and the easiness of doing tests with Pharo, also really one enjoyed having the language and the IDE all together. In general, the audience seems to evaluate Phausto as the more accessible alternative to audio development with C++, and I am really happy because this is one of the main goals of the project . I was not the only one talking about Smalltalk this year, because the final keynote talk was made by Carla Scaletti, creator of Kyma, who extensively talk about Smalltalk at the end of its talk. Bernard Pottier

Dear colleagues and friends, It is with great sadness that we learned earlier this week of the passing of Bernard Pottier. Bernard was a remarkable figure and a passionate advocate of Smalltalk. He contributed to the creation of the Computer Science department at the University of Western Brittany in the 1980s, where he trained a large number of young students in programming and object modeling. In research as well, his involvement in the Smalltalk community was significant; for example, he was behind the first organization of the ESUG summer school in Brest in 1993. A tribute will be paid to him on Thursday, November 7th. Here are the details: 1. *The Contest Brief *Welcome to the International Workshop on Smalltalk Technology (IWST) logo contest. We would like people to design the logo IWST is going to use in the next following years. IWST is traditionally organize by _European Smalltalk User Group (ESUG_ <https://esug.org/>) within the annual ESUG conference. The goals of the workshop is to create a forum around contributions and experiences in building or using technologies related to Smalltalk. While maturity of presented ideas and results is not crucial, it is expected that their presentation triggers discussion and exchange of ideas. Distinguishing between stateful Objects and Values has long been recognized as fruitful. Values are universal context-free abstractions that prevent side effects and allow for a functional programming style. Though programming languages provide simple Values like Integer and String, more complex Values are usually not supported. We show how to model complex structures as Values in Smalltalk, which allows for a simple and versatile implementation. The resulting Smalltalk systems are simple, clear and easily testable. Christian Haider [1] is the author of the PDFtalk library [2] used in smallCharts [3] and other projects. Underlying is a simple implementation of Values [4] which he uses extensively. Christian will show how Values make systems simpler and easier. Examples for some uses and the limits of the approach will be discussed. Since Values use only standard Smalltalk features, it can be used in most other Smalltalks. All of this code is available with MIT licence. This will be an online meeting from home.
