The topics of your paper can be on all aspect of Smalltalk, theoretical as well as practical. Participants are invited to submit research articles or industrial papers. This year we want to open two different tracks: one research track and one industrial track with less scientific constraints. We expect papers of three kinds: Short position papers describing emerging ideas Long research papers with deeper description of experiments and of research results. Industrial papers with presentation of real and innovative Smalltalk applications; this kind of paper should enlighten why Smalltalk is really appropriate for your application. You can map between UNCs and drive letters using the command prompt’s ”net use” or (for permanent mappings only?) the registry’s \\HKCU\Network <file:///\\HKCU\Network> . Should be easy enough (and fast enough) to make VW’s own directory dialog use one of those to add that info when opening. The VW FileDialog and Win32FileDialog can only be used for not empty directories (selecting an arbitrary file and getting its directory path). The Aragon.Widget Dialog>requestDirectory let me select a directory but does not show the drive letters of the (Windows-) mapped drives. Thus, for our users (hospital nurses), it is not so easy to find a known directory. James, I admit that I also had this thought when I read the thread so far. Smalltalk is much more than Pharo and it would be good to see mor cross-dialect work. E.g. filetree and cypress would be great candidates. Otoh, if you look at the last few years when ESUG was accepted, you see mostly Pharo-related projects. One of the reasons may be that this community had most available mentors. I'd also prefer if ESUG applied, and I'd like to see more cross-dialect work that is of benefit for a broader community. But if we don't step up and propose projects and volunteer to mentor, then it cannot happen, even if it's ESUG that mainly proposes Pharo projects. Here are some project ideas: # coding guidelines for cross-dialect projects and tool support (think slime, rewrite tools etc.) # st-hub integration into more dialects (bi-directional) # cypress implementations for vw, vast, squeak, Dolphin, gst and others # Improvements for jntegrating Seaside with front-end javascript But: who has the time and knowledge to mentor? In last years discussion for project ideas I was told by a mentor that they're not interested in cross-dialect as a design goal and they concentrate on Pharo first, in order to get at least something done. This is a sensible argument, no matter if I like it. So what can we do a bout it? Hi All I have recently revisited the work of Lucas Renggli on hosting embedded DSLs in Pharo with Petit Parser, Helvetia and Language Boxes. I know Petit Parser is in Pharo 3, and presumably 4, but does anyone know the status / availability of Helvetia and Language Boxes with the new releases? Presumably updates would have been necessary because of new compiler, handling of source and AST etc? Information appreciated. Thanks and Regards Graham
