Dear Smalltalkers, As you know ESUG (European Smalltalk User Group) is a nonprofit organization, ran by a bunch of volunteers which aims at promoting Smalltalk (http://www.esug.org/Promotion) ESUG does have multiple actions such as sponsoring Smalltalk-related publications (articles and books), encouraging developers and more specifically young students to learn Smalltalk (Student Volunteers program) and build innovative software using Smalltalk (SummerTalk, ESUG Awards, "Support your project" program, Umbrella for GSoC, ...). ESUG revenue comes only from sponsoring, donations, and registrations to the ESUG yearly event (for 20 years!). Therefore, we invite you to support the ESUG actions by encouraging your companies and organizations to sponsor ESUG. IWST Extended Deadline

We have received several requests asking for a delay concerning the submission deadline. Please can you disseminate this information and use the CFP to invite some of your colleagues/students/partners to submit papers. Your support is essential to make IWST 2012 a success. Metacello BOF at ESUG 2012?

I am planning on doing an informal Metacello Q&A session at Camp Smalltalk this year. Johan Fabry suggested a Metacello BOF during the main conference for folks who weren't able to attend Camp Smalltalk. I've also submitted a talk proposal on Metacello. Anyway, it doesn't seem that there are usually a lot of BOFs at ESUG, nor the facilities for a BOF, so I was wondering what options there might be? ... I could make room for open Q&A at the end of my talk, but I would prefer a much more informal setting for the Q&A - something with a white board ... What do you folks think. Dale

Hi, Does anyone tested the linux Mint 13 maya (mate)? I installed it with mint4win.exe in windows, but I can't get persistence and I have troubles with compiz that is not installed by default. I didn't find pertinent help on these issues. Best regards Philippe

Hello, Please find below a description for a position in our Smalltalk team. ** 12-months Software Research Engineer Position for Service Robotics ** Context: The RoboShop Project The RoboShop project aims at providing the foundations for using robots as media in the customer relationship management (CRM). This work should provide a hardware and software platform to build experiments about robotic usage scenario related to shopping. This platform must be complete and used in a public demonstration at the end of the project by october 2013. Description The work to be carried out aims at providing a robust infrastructure (hardware and soft- ware) for robotic experiments related to services. The hardware part will mainly rely on an existing robotic platform which already integrate the most common sensors and actuators (Laser, Vision, infra-red, ...). The contribution will consist in integrating some new sensors. The main effort is therefore on the software part. Technologically it will imply to work with ROS (Robot Operating System) [ros08] and Pharo [pha08] as well as some robotic tools and algorithms: simulators (Gazebo, Morse), SLAM, ...
