Topic: Higher level IDEs for BlockChain Technologies ==================================================== With Ethereum, BlockChain technology moves from being an implementation technology for virtual currency to being the basis for developing new kinds of software with smart contracts. The goal of this project is to analyse and improve high-level development and analysis tools for this new kind of software. Users like banks and insurance companies need tools that model their processes and level of confidentiality of the information shared though blockchain technology, especially on public blockchains. For this, users need a solution that provides a higher level way to model systems than solidity code or even low-level byte-code. In addition, blockchain based solutions often use multiple programming languages. Especially the later poses a risk for later software maintenance. The goal of this Postdoc is to work on high level IDE / modelling tools for blockchain technology like Ethereum. The plan is to - Analyse the current state of tools and languages in the context of blockchain technologies. - Analyse the current state: modelling tools and processes with a focus in decision processes both in communities and commercial use. - Explore how to improve the state of the art, with a focus on how tools can support users of blockchain solutions. - Realize prototypes for IDEs/modelling tools for Ethereum, possibly using Pharo. Directions to explore will be both related to generating and analysing solidity code as well as complete solutions for users in an industrial setting. - Results will be submitted to be publish in international conferences and journals. The work is a collaboration between Inria Lille (RMOD) and Utocat SAS. There are great news about the upcoming Smalltalker’s Meetup in Zürich. We’ve found a conference room for the evening and will start off with a “show us your project” session in a room with a big screen and start the social part after your input at a nice Australian Steakhouse. The best thing is: we already have a first session: Michal is going to show his new Gemstone-based persistence framework for Pharo. It can be used to develop in Pharo and keep your objects stored in Gemstone. We need your input This new setup with a meeting room adds more value to all of us: we can now not only talk about each others’ epxeriences and porjects, but see what they’re up to and what they found. So to make this event an even better one than before, we need people who’d like to share their ideas, their latest work on some hobby or professional project. There’s no need for a full-fledged sales pitch with fog and visual effects and such, just bring your laptop and show us what you do! The room is reserved for ca. 1 hour, so we can have, say, 2-3 presentations before we leave for beer and steaks. So if you have something interesting to show or would like to find people to join on some early project you’re starting/planning, give us a chance to learn about it. If you’ve built some interesting tool or use Smalltalk for something very special to you, let us know and share your fascination and ideas. We’ll sure appreciate that! But if you spontaneously decide you want to show something or start some discussion, feel free to do so. You just need to be prepared that we might have to leave the room before it’s your turn. HTML Mail Designer for use in Smalltalk application

Hi, please excuse my posting to this list although my question is very generic and not very closely related to Smalltalk. But since here are a few people around who use Seaside and related web technologies in Smalltalk, I thought this question may be of interest to the group. Our web application (Seaside based, to at least justify my abuse of this group a tiny bit) sends out mails to registered users at certain events. We currently have some HTML-Strings that are concatenated into mail messages, by simply streaming the headers, an empty line and the html contents of a mail message. Of course we fill in individual information like the name of the recipient, amounts etc. individually for our mail recipients. I am looking for an application that allows to me visually design such an HTML (and alternative text) message and export the result as a simple ASCII file that can be used to 1. Use a simple text editor (or workspace) to add variables (like %1, %2 etc. for bindWith:with: etc, or Mustache or whatever) 2. Read from a FileStream and fill in the variables and concatenate the ready made message into a String that can be sent out via SMTP I've tried MailDesigner Pro on Mac, but this doesn't embed pictures inline into the exported file. It puts images onto some cloud location and adds links to them. This is not what I have in mind. I want the images to be inline in the message as attachment. I hope I've described exactly enough what I need and that you guys have any tips what I could use. I don't care if it runs on Windows, Mac or Linux, and it can be a reasonably priced commercial product if it does what I need. Maybe you don't have an answer but have an idea where I could ask.
